Re: A collaboration between Educational Outcomes (EO) and The Child’s Dignity (TCD)

Trauma and its effects on learning and the learner are critical impediments to successful life outcomes, including the attainment of higher education, gainful employment, positive health results, the reduction of poverty and homelessness, and movement across social divides. Educational Outcomes, in partnership with The Child’s Dignity, seeks to create a trauma-informed platform, to aid tutors, caregivers, community health workers, and associated staff in trauma-informed principles and best practices.

Educational Outcomes is a U.S.-based non-profit specializing in the creation of trauma-informed training and data-driven curriculum models. The Child’s Dignity is a non-governmental organization registered in Kenya that is committed to preserving the dignity of children by empowering them to achieve their full potential.

Educational Outcomes will aid in the creation of the following trauma-informed platforms:

  1. Trauma-Informed Training (s) for teachers, caregivers, tutors, community health workers, and associated staff. It is critical that organizations create trauma-informed systems that include all staff. This ensures that student interactions are uniform and trauma-informed tenets are applied by every person a student encounters. These trainings can be incorporated into TCD’s future trainings including its 4-day training program, Trauma-Care Essentials 4-day Workshop, and its Trauma-Care Mastery course, and future community training events. The list below is a starting point, and additional courses, classes, or workshops can be developed as necessary.
    1. These trainings can include several lectures and workshops, among them:
      1. What is Trauma
        1. Increased awareness for teachers and associated staff
      2. Trauma’s Effects on Learning
  • Teaching Through Trauma
  1. Emotional Regulation, Managing Stress to Be Your Best
  2. Creating Safe and Supportive Learning Environments
  3. The Role of Strong Student-Teacher Relationships
  • Implementing Trauma-Informed Practices
  • Self-Care and Professional Resilience

    1. Systems for distance learning
      1. Google Classrooms
      2. Zoom driven instruction
  • Video creation
  1. Others as technology needs are more completely assessed
  1. Technology
  2. Culturally and indigenously relevant material.
  3. Adaptation of teaching materials to target specific populations, programs, and age groups.
  4. Use of material to train trainers
  5. Potential discussions associated with classroom best practices
    1. Creation of critical thinking skills
    2. Student-driven instruction
  • Integration of technology into the classroom
  • Research and Data Collection: EO will aid in the creation of measurement and outcomes for all projects where its material is used. This will include collaboration of research and data collection models, and the eventual writing of internal reports and potential journal or book submissions. This can also include discussions on data collection, data processing, and storage with partner organizations.
  1. Copyright and Branding: EO will retain ownership and copyright of the material and have input into future adaptation of all learning materials. Branding of all material will always include EO’s Project Africa logo.
  2. Financial Considerations: EO enters the collaboration with no expectation of incurring any financial responsibility. It will fund its staff and travel when necessary. It should be understood that no fees or hidden costs will be considered valid.
    1. Grant Writing and Reporting: EO will actively search for grant partners and will assist in grant writing and reporting.
    2. Networks: EO will, when feasible, access and introduce TCD to its networks allowing for potential collaboration or funding opportunities.

The future alliance between Educational Outcomes and The Child’s Dignity is wholly focused on uplifting at-risk populations in Kenya via trauma-informed platforms and practices. Through the above-mentioned processes, it is hoped that students will have access to learning that uplifts their lives and provides improved outcomes.
